It has been mounted on a pier in my observatory since I bought it last year. IT DOES NOT HAVE A TRIPOD. It is in great shape. The goto is phenominal. I have used the Meade for Astrophotography and I have attached a couple of examples that were taken with a modified Canon 400D and also a pic of M42 (The Great Nebula in Orion) taken with the Stellarvue. For those of you needing a tripod, Meade make the "Giant Field Tripod" for this heavy duty scope and are usually readily available "used" on here or other Astronomy related websites for between $300.00-$400.00 max, please consider that this comes complete with the superior Milburn all aluminum super wedge (lists for around $550.00) all important if you wish to do astrophotography.   I would consider a trade for a Celestron CGE Mount 2005 or newer and some cash, I dont need a tripod.
